Rose Week at Lady Dixon Park.

Lady Dixon Park have just held their annual Rose Week and this year the weather was perfect for the roses, it was the best I've ever seen it.

There were lots of activities for the children including face painters, a fun fair, balloons, bubbles, music and drama.

These bonsai were in the marquee where the judging was held.

The Japanese Garden.

There were some very pretty plants for sale.

Competitions for the best roses, sweet peas, bonsai, flower arrangements and the best cactus....

...and a harpist entertaining the visitors.'

So although Rose Week may be over and the petals are falling it won't be long before we're back. There's always something new to see in these gardens all year round.

Pot - pourri.

It's Rose Week coming up soon at Lady Dixon Park and there's plenty of things there for you to do, but I just like taking a walk and picking up the petals!

The gardens are looking lovely despite all the rain and I like the patterns left on this wall from previous growth.

I put the petals in a bowl and turned them over every day.... and this is how they look now.

So how do I get them to smell nice?

Everything's coming up roses.

A while ago I made some beads with rose petals and then I decorated this tin to put them in.

I love India Flint's blog and how the rose petals were used... jealous!

not all those who wander are lost: roses roses all the way: roses, roses all the way but unlike the Browning poem no "myrtle mixed in my path like mad" merely the nice chap at Central Market Flo...

Tin.

I covered this little tin with layers of tissue paper then glued on magazine scraps and coated it with varnish. The half of a butterfly wing came from a necklace and I coloured it with 'Sharpie' permanent pen.

I think it qualifies as an element. I looked it up here to make sure!

rose petal beads

Had a go at making these beads by wrapping a rose petal around a cocktail stick. Here they are drying.
